Aloha from Honolulu!
The whole group arrived on Wednesday, and we’ve been on the go ever since! On Thursday, we embarked on a snorkel cruise to the islands of Molokini and Lanai. Margo, Sarah, and Lilly saw some amazing coral and fish. Ashley and Lauren enjoyed laying out on the bow of the boat and the beautiful views! Afterwards, we enjoyed a delicious dinner and started our “Survivor” challenge. Our group broke into two tribes, and team Humuhumunukunukuapua’a won the Catch Phrase challenge. (Yes, it is a long name, but the team named themselves after the Hawaii state fish.)
On Friday, we completed our first day of community service at the Boys and Girls Club. Mallory was busy painting nails, Michael started a game of elbow tag, Chad was giving piggyback rides, and Arden was helping make friendship bracelets. Brianna and Cora really loved supervising some of the younger kids in the park, while Matt and Blake were playing with some kids in the game room. It was such an incredible day! We returned to the hotel to take a hula lesson and make handmade leis. It was a great way to learn about the Hawaiian culture. That evening, we continued our Survivor challenge, and played a game of Family Feud. Our other team, that goes by the name “hukuna matata”, won that challenge. (You’ll have to ask your trip member what team they are on!)
On Saturday, we went surfing. Everyone was impressed as to how easy our guides made it for us, and how easy we were able to pick it up. Jess and Alanna were “hangin’ ten” and Zelda was “shreddin gnar.” We had so much fun and are looking forward to surfing again next week! We had a relaxing afternoon, and then went to the town of Paia for a photo scavenger hunt. (Team Humuhumunukunukuapua’a was once again victorious!) Adrienne was able to snap some really awesome pictures, while Danny used his creativity to lead his team towards victory!
We hope all is well back home and we will update you soon!
