Our first full day in Chicago was action packed. In the morning we headed over to the Museum of Science and Industry to check out some cool exhibits. Jacob and Matt B. enjoyed the life size submarine exhibit and Erika got to see what it feels like to be in a tornado. From there, we headed over to the Water Tower Place, where we had lunch and some free time to explore the Magnificent Mile area. That night it was time for some famous Chicago comedy. The group headed over to the historic Second City Theater where we saw a hilarious night of improv and sketch comedy. Noah and Reed S. laughed their heads off and we even stayed for a bonus third act.
The next morning we rented bikes for a two-hour, 5-mile long biking tour of Chicago. We rode alongside Lake Michigan under clear skies and made our way to the large public zoo to check out some sea lions and leopards. Emma C. reacquainted herself with biking and Samara and Nicole came back in high spirits citing the experience as the highlight of the trip. From here, the group ate lunch at Navy Pier and headed over to the WillisTower (more commonly known as the SearsTower). Alex L. was trembling on the elevator but overcame her fear to enjoy the view overlooking the city. Austin and Ben hovered over the glass floors to stare straight down the 1,451 foot height.
That night we traveled to Wrigley Field to watch the Chicago Cubs take on the Anaheim Angels. Griffen and Laurel cheered on our makeshift home team but did not forget their allegiance to the Yankees. The rest of the group dug into some classic Wrigley Field grub and we watched the sun set over the historic diamond. Chicago was a huge success ! We’re now leaving the luxurious Omni hotel for some camping in the great state of Minnesota. Until next time, US Explorer
