Bon Dia from Portugal!
We arrived at our beautiful waterfront hotel in Porto with exquisite views from our balconies of the water, the many bridges and soothing sounds of the local singers performing the day away. The weather here is still warm but has a cool nice ocean breeze. The first night we got a lay of the land by exploring Riberia Square—browsing the vendors, testing out our first Portugese meal which included a variety of fresh seafood and topped off with gelato for our evening stroll.
Our first attempt at laundry was a hilarious endeavour. Gloria our laundry fairy godmother graciously washed, folded, pressed and provided new laundry bags for everyone! She had never seen a group so large in her store so she took a group photo of us all!
Our walking tour guide Ana was another excellent addition to our trip. As a local, she gave us funny stories about Porto taking us off the beaten path through beautiful winding streets throughout the city. One of our stops, Clergios church had a narrow staircase up to the top which gave us an expansive view of the entire city! It was a great spot for photos. The highlight for many of us was when Ana took us to her favourite lunch stop for steak and cheese sandwiches! They were melt in your mouth phenomenal.
The following day in Porto, we got our first adrenaline rush canyoning over waterfalls. Our guides were once again entertaining and made the day for us. Upon arrival, we were fitted with wetsuits, helmets and harnesses and made our way down the river. Canyoning is a mixture of rappelling down a rock face and zip-lining to the bottom. The crystal clear waters cooled us off while giving us a beautiful backdrop to rappelling towards!
We are now on route to Lisbon where we will be watching the Euro cup final game of France vs. Portugal. Many of us have already invested in Portugal jerseys, flags or scarves to show our support. Lets go Portugal!
