Hello from Hollywood!
Our stars are rocking the City of Angels, enjoying the comforts of the UCLA campus as our home base. We last left you enroute to our Ventura campsite after our amazing Tahoe adventures. After sleeping amongst the palm trees, we headed out for the beach where we soaked up some sun and watched the surfers playing in the surf, trying to pick up tips before our surfing lessons in San Diego.
Our arrival in Los Angeles started with the magic of the movies, taking in the backlot tour at Universal Studios. Many of our young ladies were very excited for our trip down Wisteria Lane, set of Desperate Housewives, calling out which character lived in which house. But the best part of the day, especially for myself, was taking in the sights, sounds, and tastes of HogsmeadeVillage at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. More than one person was heard complaining about never getting their letter to Hogwarts…ok, one person…it was me…
We explored the beautiful campus of UCLA, strolled along Venice Beach, discovered the best ice cream sandwiches at Diddy Riese, and searched the stars in front of the Chinese Theater. Lots of fun was had comparing hand and feet size with celebrities before heading off to take in the famous Hollywood sign. Fun fact: Sean Connery went barefoot when he made his mark in the cement.
Taking a stop out of our adventures, we spent the morning at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to volunteer our time and give a little back to this wonderful city. Everyone pitched in and worked hard to help sort almost two dozen pallets of donated food that help support thousands of families in the region. Support like ours helps the food bank provide meals for less than a quarter per person; an amazing fact that surprised all of us.
No trip to California can be complete without visiting the happiest place on Earth, and the bus rang out with Disney tunes new and old as we made our way to Disneyland. This led to some new revelations, as favorite Disney movies were compared by some, while others shared the fun they have had on previous Disney adventures. The day was a huge success, capped by the whole group watching the Paint the Night parade, followed by the spectacular fireworks. There were plenty of Oooh’s and Ahhh’s as the sky was painted red, yellow, violet, green, as the magic of Disney was brought to life before our eyes.
As we enjoy our last day in LA, we set our eyes towards San Diego. We have our board shorts and swimsuits ready, our shades and sunscreen packed, the surfer lingo and hair flowing. Can you tell we’re ready to hang ten?
Until next time,
