The Awe-Inspiring Canyons – California & The Canyons

Dear families of Westcoast Connection California and the Canyons,

In the past few days we have seen some of the most incredible scenery. On our way to Bryce Canyon, we stopped for lunch in the middle of Zion National Park where we got a chance to relax and take in the unbelievable natural beauty of the area. We had dinner at Chuckwagon Cookouts in Kanab, Utah (“Utah’s Little Hollywood”), the filming location of many Westerns like ‘Gunsmoke’ and ‘The Lone Ranger.’ At Chuckwagon, we all put on costumes and went out back to film our very own Western!, Rosie, Emma, Lindsay, Shannon and others played Cowgirls at a Saloon;  Kim, Sam S, Liz, Daniel, Saffire, Rakel and others played Indians; while Ryan and Andrew, faced off in a classic Western duel.

During dinner, the staff surprised the group by announcing Color War. The cowboy team (led by captains Darby and Nick) faced off against the aliens (with Jake G and Jess M as their leaders). Back at the campsite, the teams started working on skits, dances, and songs for the color war performances the following night.

The next morning, we went straight to Bryce Canyon, where we went on one of the most amazing hikes you could imagine. Back at the campsite, we had our Color War relay race, which was won by the Cowboy team. At night, we were blown away by how amazing the performances were. The Cowboys had a hilarious skit, which starred Jeremy, Bence and Lloyd. Jake, David, and Roger followed with another one for the Alien team.  Next, the aliens performed a hip-hop routine starring Victor, Saffire, and Kaily, while the Cowboys did a Country-style dance with Sloane, Kim, Ludo, and Josh G. After both teams performed the songs, which they had written over the course of the day, the Cowboys were announced as the winner!

The next morning, we headed to the Grand Canyon, one of seven natural wonders of the world.  We stopped for lunch at a
beautiful lookout over turquoise waters and the Glen Canyon Dam. Then, we hiked around the Canyon, and were amazed by the awe-inspiring views.

We are writing this scribe from an ice cream parlor (a surprise stop!!) and are looking forward to a good night’s sleep before making our way to Sedona (for a Pink Jeep Tour of the Canyon), and our final stop: Scottsdale.

Wishing you all the best,

Your Staff: Lauren, Michael, Louis, Jill, Carly, and Laura
