On our last day in Tignes, we used our Sportignes cards to the fullest. We played some intense games of Basketball & volleyball, bounced around on some trampolines and followed by a well deserved crepe or ice cream before water activities. Trip members got to try stand up paddle boards, peddle boats and even kayaks out on the lagoon!
Next on the itinerary was the most anticipated activity of the day: Acroland. A 100m slide, curved up to launch us into the air before penciling (or flopping) into the water. We were taught how to slide safely down on our backs, and on our stomachs to pick up speed. We then had another opportunity to see the top of the mountain by picking up a pedestrian pass for the ski lift. At the top, some of our trip members experienced a snow ball fight for the very first time! We concluded our evening at a British bowling alley, and were impressed by the hidden skills of many.
The next morning, we set our alarms to watch the sun rise over the mountain peaks. A perfect goodbye to a beautiful town. We arrived in Geneva and headed out to walk along the lake toward the jet d’eau, the 500ft high water fountain. We loved getting soaked walking down the jetty. In our suits we continued our walk past the pier to a sandy plage (beach) and waded into the clear, bright blue water. Maddy enjoyed her favorite gelato so far, the freshest pineapple and strawberry gelato she has ever had. The water and ice cream were the perfect celebration for the hot afternoon.
We enjoyed our first Swiss dinner at a fondue restaurant with a live folk band playing all kinds of local, unique instruments: wooden spoons, cow bells, and our group’s favorite: a wooden horn that was one story high. A few of us even got the chance to show off their horn playing skills for the entire restaurant!
Our short stay in Geneva culminated with a United Nations visit. Before heading off, we were spoiled with a delicious breakfast at the hotel, completed by authentic gauffres and Nutella. On route to Interlake we stopped to white water raft through the Alps. It was an experience that none of us will forget, to say the least. The scenic views of Switzerland we got as we paddled through the glacier water was nothing short of breathtaking.
We have had an amazing time discovering France and Switzerland so far and were excited to head to the third country on our itinerary – Italy! Trip Leader Christine was excited to finally use her family’s first language, Italian, with the conductor.
The whole group arrived in the Milano Centrale’s beautiful train station where we said our goodbyes to a few trip members who were leaving. Though we’ve only had a small taste of Italy so far, our stomachs have been filled as we sampled paninis, gelato, pizza, pasta, Italian cakes and more during our short stay. Stay tuned for a report of our favorites!
