Life Changing Experiences

Soaking Up the San Diego Sun! – US Explorer

San Diego Beach

Home stretch parents!

We’re down to our last ten days and can’t believe how fast the summer has flown by. Since our last update, we’ve left the Midwest and have moved on to the bright lights and big cities. After leaving Park City we arrived in Glendale, UT for our tour of the canyons. We spent our first day on a hike through the picturesque Bryce Canyon where Alec, Alex, Dani, and Will used their photography skills to capture some breathtaking views. That night at the campsite, after a delicious dinner of chicken, salmon, and steak, we played a few rounds of “The Dating Game”, where some of our campers were lucky enough to find love. Our happy couples; Emily A, Zach, Megan, Cal, Ethan, Lindsey, Madi, Jasper, Miles, Kara, Jake F., and Reese, all got the special treatment including delicious brownie sundaes at our next dinner stop. We spent the next day on a hike around the famous Grand Canyon – a truly impressive geological landscape. In the afternoon, we drove over to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes, where we experienced the harsh and unforgiving desert in all its’ glory. Jared, Josh, Lucas, and Daniel scaled to the tops of the highest dunes before tumbling back down.

The next day we drove through the gorgeous Zion National Park, before heading through the Nevada desert  to Las Vegas. After we’d settled into the beautiful Monte Carlo hotel, we hit up the strip for a quick tour of the city. We finished off our night with a Vegas landmark, the fountain show at the Bellagio. Day 2 in Vegas began with a thrill, as the trip members got a chance to experience the city at all new heights as they got a chance to choose a ride on top of the Stratosphere. We then headed to the Forum Shops for lunch, before heading to the hotel pool for a little rest and relaxation.

We then hit the road for sunny California! Our first stop was San Diego. After checking in, we headed to dinner and  to our nighttime activity – Laser Tag! While the trip members put up a valiant effort, they were ultimately no match for our staff team. A visit to San Diego wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the Zoo! Jackson, David, and Jake M., had a great time seeing all the different animals, including 4 of the 12 pandas located in the United States. After the zoo, we headed over to an indoor trampoline facility, where we got to play big games of trampoline dodge ball. Brent, Jessica, and Noah F., showed off their skills in a few nail-biting matches, and helped lead their teams to victory.

The next day was exhausting for everyone, as we spent the day under the hot sun at the San Diego beach. After spending the morning playing in the ocean, we began our surfing lessons around noon. Sloane, Sammi G., and Becca seemed to master the sport with ease, while several others struggled with balance issues. Later, in the evening, we grabbed our dinner at Seaport Village before heading back to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.

We’ve now begun our journey to Los Angeles; so stay tuned for more updates to come!
