Ola from Lisbon!
We have had a busy couple of days here in the beautiful cities of Salamanca, Spain and Porto, Portugal. We began our exploration in the beautiful city of Salamanca. Our guide Eva, led us through the historical sites of the city and we spent plenty of time soaking up the full experience of Plaza Mayor! We took advantage of the opportunity to stop in some local shops, continue sightseeing, and taste the many flavors of frozen yogurt the city has to offer. Our hotel was in prime location for watching street performers and listening to the traditional Spanish music. We visited the local bull-fighting ring, climbed to the top of the Scala Coeli for an amazing view of the whole city, and took a tour of Salamanca University where we learned about their interesting superstitions and traditions. After the tour, we had a unique view of the Roman Bridge in our pedal boats! Feeling the cool breeze on the river was the perfect refresher after our walking tour.
With another exciting experience under our belts, we moved to our waterfront hotel in Porto, Portugal. By land and by sea, we set out to explore this intriguing city. We relaxed on a boat cruise down the Duoro River after checking out the shops and local restaurants near our hotel in Ribeira Square. Continuing to delve into the culture, we took a cooking class at Work It Espasio, where we learned how to make Franceshina, a delicious local favorite, as well as delicious vegetable soup and homemade lemonade and dessert.
Last, but definitely not least, we traveled to Peneda-Geres National Park. Canyoning down the Arado River was one of the most unbelievable experiences many of us have ever had! It was by far the highlight of the trip for many trip members. Between repelling and zip lining, we saw breathtaking views and had an experience of a lifetime! Between the view of the waterfalls, the exhilaration of trying something new, and the delicious chocolate snack our guides brought us, it was the perfect day. We then spent the evening exploring the quaint town of Braga, where several trip members enjoyed the churros dipped in Nutella!
Next, we’re on to Lisbon! Let the adventure and fun continue!
