On our first day in Florence, we climbed the 463 steps to the top of the famous Duomo from where we looked over much of the beautiful Tuscan countryside! We took advantage of the warm weather and beautiful florentine streets and ate dinner on outdoor patios. Hayley discovered Italy’s best milkshake!
Mateo and Kayla liked the orchestra we happened upon on our way home from gelato. Holly discovered her new favorite flavor which is a dairy free coconut!
We had nothing but beautiful weather in Florence which made the Boboli gardens that are part of the Pitti Palace seem even more gorgeous than they already are!
Marcelo, our tour guide for the Academia, made us all laugh when he
insisted on taking a selfie with the famous David statue, wearing his new Westcoast Connection t-shirt! Julia W. and Taylor also took some selfies with David!
Cooking school became a favorite group activity as we all rocked our
aprons and turned into Italian chefs. We all had a chance to contribute to the fine cuisine we later enjoyed as a group! Cori was a natural pro at making pasta from scratch, Maria learnt how to make fresh Bruschetta and Rachel helped whip up some spinach and mushroom crepes. To satisfy our sweet cravings, Ariel made true Italian Panna Cotta. Everyone had a blast combining efforts to put together a delicious Italian meal!
We arrived in Sorrento ready to soak up the Mediterranean sun! Upon our arrival, we took a dip in the Olympic sized pool at our hotel before heading to dinner at a restaurant that was surrounded by lemon trees. Marta, Matteo and Julia M. danced their hearts out at the disco afterward!
Misha, Jonny and Matt explored the swimming area off the beach in Positano with snorkel masks, on their pursuit of discovering the Mediterranean Sea life. They saw many colourful fish! The rest of us were quick to join them in the ocean and we splashed around in the crystal clear water. We had an awesome day at the beach, and for Kayla, the ferry ride back to Sorrento was a highlight that made the already fantastic day that much better!
Sophie, who was feeling adventurous, took the chef’s recommendation and tried an authentic Italian seafood dish in town. Ariel has been searching for Italy’s best pomodoro pasta. We are all seriously loving the Italian cuisine!
Our day trip to Capri was unanimously decided to be one of the best days of this trip! After taking the funicular up to the top of the island where we explored the area and had lunch with a view, we had a private boat tour around the island and to the grottos that surround it. Hayley brought her underwater camera into the coral grotto we got to jump off the boat and explore, and caught us all swimming and having a blast in the warm blue water! Avery and Jason were the first to jump in when our captain stopped for us to take a dip.
As we say good bye to the beautiful Mediterranean beach town of Sorrento, we pack our bags one last time excited for our final stop, Roma!
