All Roads Lead to Rome! – European Discovery

Buona Sera from Rome!

They say “all roads lead to Rome”, and in our case it certainly is true! Over the past week we traveled on some beautiful roads through some unforgettable destinations.

In Annecy, the group explored the cobblestone streets of the old town, and rented bikes. Ashley and Harrison led the pack on a fun bike tour of a lakeside trail. After the bike ride Paige, Tara, Max M., and Andrew had lots of energy left so they went for a quick group run to enjoy the spectacular lake and mountain views.

The following day we went whitewater rafting on a nearby river flowing through the French Alps. It was an exciting adventure made even more exciting by a race started by Aaron and Will’s boat. Brittney J. and Mikah led their boat in a round of songs to keep everyone motivated. Jake and his boat surprised Trip Director Brandon by pulling him into the river for an unplanned swim! The afternoon on the river was a great way to end our time in France.

The next morning our Swiss Alps adventure began! What a beautiful drive up into the mountains and then an awe inspiring train ride up the mountain to Zermatt. Max W. and Mackenzie took dozens of photos to capture the stunning vistas. During our first evening out, Antonio and Carlos surprised the trip with their billiard skills, we were ready to travel to the mountaintops and ski next to the famous Matterhorn. The skiers had a great time swerving down the glacier, while the non-skiers snapped some great photos of the breathtaking views from the mountaintop.

Although the group loved the crisp air in the Alps, it was time to embark on our Italian adventure starting in Venice. The group particularly loved the Murano glass factory tour where we were shown how the glass was molded. At the famed Piazza San Marco, Gabe, Mykah, and Jason managed to play a friendly game of soccer with some of the locals while avoiding the pigeons! Our time in Venice would not be complete without a gondola ride. Weaving through the quaint buildings on the city’s canal system was truly magical. Michelle made her gondola experience authentic by serenading her fellow passengers and gondolier with songs. After our fun few days in Venice it was time to head to the beach!

The group was ecstatic for our full day at the playa in Rimini, Italy. Harrison, Max M., Andrew, Max W. and others showed off their volleyball skills in a tournament. Aaron, Will and Jillian rented a paddle boat and had lots of fun drifting on the Adriatic Rivera. Our beach fun ended with a fun night of mini golf and gelato. Mykah channeled his inner Tiger Woods and putted a score of 39, the trip’s lowest score. After 18 competitive holes of mini golf, the group enjoyed a well-deserved gelato treat. Paige especially loved the gelateria’s specialty 3 Bis flavor which had bits of different kinds of chocolate.

Our relaxing days on lakes, mountains, and beaches have made us ready to conquer the ancient and historic city of Rome. We can’t wait to see what Rome and the rest of our Italian excursion has to offer.
