Life Changing Experiences

Rest, Relaxation & Reflection! – European Discovery

Bonjour from France!

After a whirlwind start to our European adventure we are now in Annecy, France for some rest, relaxation and reflection on our first week! The past few days have taken us from the beautiful sites of Amsterdam to the magnificent and historic landmarks of Paris.

Our Amsterdam adventure started with a visit to the Anne Frank House and museum. Being in the tiny, cramped house where the diary of Anne Frank was written brought the story and emotions to life. Taylor even spotted pencil markings on the wall where the Frank family recorded Anne and her siblings’ height.

Next we went to the “I Amsterdam” sign where the group had a blast taking creative pictures. Ryan Z. and Jake even climbed to the top of the letters! We channeled our inner Dutch and rode through the streets of Amsterdam on bikes. Carly loved zooming down the streets and over the bridges while seeing the city. Laughs were had by all at the Boom Chicago Comedy Club, especially Lily, who shouted for the comedians to use a Britney Spears song in their improv sketch.

The following day we arrived in Paris and headed straight for the Eiffel Tower. We trekked up to the second observatory deck and took in the breathtaking landscape of the city. What goes up must come down, and Jason and Gabe led the pack in climbing down the many flights of steps.

During our stay in the “city of lights” we visited all of the major monuments. Max M. and Andrew were amazed by the gold decor, massive painted ceilings, and manicured gardens at Versailles, and they wanted to move in to the palace. Everyone was impressed with the artwork in the Louvre. Mackenzie managed to find her way out of the crowd to snap a selfie with the Mona Lisa. Brittani L. and Amanda were champions as we marched out of the Louvre and down the Champs D’Elysee past all of the bleachers set up for the Tour de France to the top of the Arc du Triomophe. Ashley even managed to get an incredible photo of her delicious La Duree macaroon in front of the city of Paris from the top!
European Discovery
Our fun in Paris ended with our trip’s Karaoke debut at Cafe Rive Droite. Andie and Julia broke the ice with an upbeat rendition of Beyoncé’s “Love on Top”. Carlos, Antonio, and Daniel (aka Juan) capped off the night with some flavor by honoring their Hispanic heritage by singing “Danza Kuduro”.

Though we are sad to say goodbye to the magical city of Paris we are excited for our adventures at our next stops in Annecy and Zermatt.

Au revoir for now,
