Hawaii Community Service checks in:
This blog was written by Trip Member, Alex K.:
The past days of this Hawaii community service have not only been busy, but also filled with tons of fun. Since our last post a lot has happened including exploring what Hawaii has to offer and, of course, community service. We started our Sunday by paying respects at the USS Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor. Just before entering, no time was wasted as Chelsea and Olivia led the conversation and the topic of discussion: favorite childhood movies and shows. After some reminiscing, we started the tour by watching an informative video on Pearl Harbor then went to the historical site of the Sunken USS Arizona. The rest of the afternoon was at the lovely Waikiki Beach. Josh S. had no trouble finding an area to throw around a football be it in or out of the water. The day was capped off with a group dinner, visited by company director Rich. We started the week strong by visiting Boys and Girls Club. While Emma T. was running soccer, Mackenzie and Stephanie helped the kids make crowns and tiaras. After a hard day’s work, we had some fun at Dave and Busters. Jordan was particularly successful at playing the arcade version of Deal or No Deal. Tuesday, we had our last day at Boys and Girls with some handball and other arts and crafts. We then had a dance party and had a heartfelt goodbye led by Josh G. After, we relaxed at a beach by some surfers. With beaches and surfers, we were inspired to have an authentic Hawaiian meal. We ended the day with a visit around Kalekaua strip here in Waikiki and preparation for the hike up Diamond Head tomorrow.
