We have now arrived at the UCLA dorms in Los Angeles, California. On our first night here, we went to the TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly known as Mann’s) where Sophia, Jesse, and Lila saw Miguel perform live on stage. The trip members were able to see the Hollywood Sign and walked the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The next day, we went to Venice Beach where Harrison, Danny, Ross, and Andrew played Basketball 4 on 4 vs locals and won the game! In addition, Zach, Spencer Sc., and Colin got henna tattoos at the beach. That evening, after taking a stroll on Rodeo Drive, we hit up the Improv Comedy Club where Troy, Spencer Sc., Lila, and Amanda got called out by some of the comics (all in good fun). As a special treat for the group, we took them to the famous ice cream shop, Diddy Riese, where Shanna, Kaylie, Anna, and Drew indulged in different flavors of ice cream sandwiches. The next morning, on a more serious note, we entered the walls of the Museum of Tolerance where the trip members learned about the importance of their choice of words and heard the stories of Holocaust survivors and other touching stories. We then went to LA’s Farmer’s Market for lunch, where Emily, Rachel, and Anna enjoyed the largest sour pickles. Afterwards, we had the opportunity to explore the UCLA gift shop and had time to explore campus and use all their facilities. Davi and Sophia chose to hang out by the pool and listen to music. That night, the group went to the Santa Monica Pier for dinner before walking over to their famous ferris wheel; we rode it in the evening as we looked over the calm Pacific Ocean.
Finally, Disneyland had arrived. The trip members enjoyed their time in Anaheim, where Spencer Sc. admits that he witnessed the best fireworks and parade in his lifetime! All the trip members were intrigued and in awe as they watched all their favorite Disney characters march by. The next morning, we did some volunteer work and helped out at the LA Regional Food Bank. Zack, Colin, and Harrison worked extremely hard to give back to the community and as a whole group, we were able to package up 12,859 pounds of food for underprivileged children. Afterwards, we went to Universal Studios, where Drew won a free fast pass at the amusement park for helping someone out. We ended our time in LA at Citywalk, where we all went to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner together.
The next morning, we traveled to San Diego where we toured the world famous San Diego Zoo on a double-decker bus which allowed us to see all the animals (including polar bears). Hudson and Zac C. also had the chance to explore the snake exhibit and ride the Skytrain. For dinner, the group went to Souplantation, where we ate delicious food, buffet style. We ended our night with laser tagging, and played two rounds! Congratulations to Danny S. and Spencer So. for coming in first place! The next day, we went surfing, and according to Drew, this was the best thing he’s ever done!
