Life Changing Experiences

La Bella Vita! – ON TOUR Backpack France, Switzerland & Italy

Ciao Familie!

We are so excited to have arrived in Italy! On our first day, we made our way to La Spezia and were amazed by the beauty of this small Italian town. We spent the afternoon walking around and some of us savoured our first Italian gelato. Some of our trip members also found some great memorabilia in the little town shops, including Italy hats they wore proudly. We ended our long travel day with a delicious Italian dinner.

The next day, we were delighted to meet a handful of new trip members from Canada and the United States. We welcomed them with joyful greetings and cheers! We then made our way to the small coastal village of Monterosso on a really cool high-speed train. We had such an amazing day, spending it by the beach and enjoying the crystal clear waters of the ocean. We played Frisbee, ball sports and jackpot in the sea. That night, we indulged in a nice group dinner in the village with delicious Italian specialties like calamari and pesto. Before heading back for the night, we danced with some village children as a local band played music by the water.

The next morning we woke up early and enjoyed a nice breakfast and cappuccinos in our hotel’s cozy outdoor courtyard. We were joined by Mini, our hotel owner’s adorable little puppy. We then spent the day exploring three villages of the Cinque Terre. We began with a hike from Riommagiore to Manarola, where we rewarded ourselves with delicious gelato and foccocia. A few trip members also took this opportunity to cool off at the local waterhole. We then continued our hike to Corniglia, climbing up 382 stone steps. It was quite the challenge but what an incredible view of the seaside we got to enjoy! In the evening, we headed back to La Spezia for a well deserved dinner. To finish off the day, we played a really fun game called One Ballpoint Pen where teams had to barter to see who could turn a pen into something more valuable. The results were so much fun as some trip members came back with a slice of bread or a pack of mentos, and others with a kiss on the cheek. The winners however managed to exchange their pen for a brand new travel notebook of a total value of AUS $5. Congratulations!

Tomorrow, we’re off to Venice! Ci parliamo dopo (speak to you soon)!
