We’ve been keeping busy since we last wrote to you! Last week, we spent time working with Nature Jay from Eco Maui. He shared a lot of environmental information with us, and lead us through cleaning both a local park and a beach. Matt and Jess led the rest of the group as we picked up debris that would either harm the water supply or be dangerous to visitors to these areas.
Our night activities over the holiday weekend were also a ton of fun. We went to a luau where our group spotted Doc Shaw, who is an actor on Disney’s “The Suite Life of Zach and Cody.” Cora went up to his table and said “hi,” while Arden snapped a picture with him. Aside from the celebrity spotting, the group enjoyed the food, dancing, and show. We continued the fun the next evening when we drove to Lahina to celebrate the 4th of July- and Mike’s birthday! We saw some terrific fireworks and got a real good feel of what the people of Maui do to celebrate. Zelda and Ashley thought the show was quite impressive.
Following all the fun, it was back to our volunteer work! We completed another day of service at the Boys and Girls club. Games were led by Blake and Lilly, while Brianna, Alanna, and Adrianne made bracelets crafts, and entertained the kids inside the club. The best part is when the children at the club had “open mic,” in which they sang, danced, and showed off their talents to us. It was so much fun!
On our last full day on Maui, we hit the waves and surfed again. Mallory is ready to go pro now! Margo and Chad made it look so easy! Our trip members sure have a lot of talent! We then flew over to Oahu. So far, our group has hiked up Diamond Head, drove up to the Pali lookout, and experienced downtown Waikiki. Highlights include a night at the ice rink, where Sarah, Danny, and Lauren were able to show off their ice skating skills! Fun times!
Our trip is flying by, but we have a few more days of sightseeing and service ahead of us. We will be home soon to share all of our stories with you!
Hope all is well!
