Hola friends and family!
Once everyone landed in sunny Costa Rica and met Jon (Trip Director), Mel and Sammi (Trip Leaders), we made our way to La Condesa. After a short bus ride, we arrived at our hotel where it was apparent that our group was going to have the summer of a lifetime. During our icebreaker games, Courtney and Sabrina were eager to get involved and get to know everyone. As we went off to dinner, Oscar was quick to notice and appreciate the unique décor of the restaurant, while Sydney and Greg were pleasantly surprised to find that Costa Rican food is wonderful.
After dinner, the group sat down to brainstorm ways to have the best summer possible. Nicki’s positive attitude was contagious to the group. Jack and Ben both emphasized that they wanted the group to have open minds while Emma and Chloe agreed that the group should try new things and experience new cultures. After shaping the group dynamic and becoming even better friends, our group was off to sleep, preparing for an exciting day.
On day 2, we awoke to the Costa Rican sunshine and headed to Rios Tropicales for a white water adventure. Carl and Britt were eager to get in the boat and start paddling. Matt and Molly forged ahead, seated at the front of the boat, leading the charge through the rapids. Through the white water rapids, Gabby was enthusiastic and paddled with a smile for nearly 10 miles on the river. Abby and Becca enjoyed the refreshing splash of the rapids, while we took in all that the Costa Rican sun had to offer.
After rafting, we enjoyed an excellent lunch at the rafting site, and returned back to the hotel where everyone eagerly anticipated the next day’s service project. While enjoying another Costa Rican meal, Ethan was thrilled to notice the soccer game playing on the restaurant’s television, and shared his knowledge of soccer to the group, something that will come in handy as we will play indoor soccer later in the trip.
The entire crew has become like family in just a short time, and is excited to see what Costa Rica has in store for the rest of the trip.
