Friends, Food & Fun Through San Fran! – Californian Extravaganza

Hey Family!

Our drive from Lake Tahoe to San Francisco was met with scenic, winding, mountainous roads and spectacular views. On arrival at the Westin, we had a celebration in honor of Sam’s birthday! Adorned in his festive “Happy Birthday” crown and surrounded by balloons and singing staff and Trip Members, Sam was greeted with a cake in the face in keeping with his family’s annual tradition. After decorating Sam’s bus seat (and henceforth his throne), the birthday boy requested songs for the bus ride from the hotel to the Giants versus Athletics baseball game, which set the perfect tone for an exciting evening!

Our first full day of sightseeing in San Francisco was action-packed and fun for everyone! Billy was in awe of Alcatraz prison, as he said that it was really cool to actually see it in person. At Fisherman’s Wharf there was a great opportunity for free time and lunch, where many Trip Members sampled delicious seafood. Morgan and Rachel were especially in love with the clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls. Noah S loved the sourdough so much that he decided to grab some sourdough art—a sourdough alligator! He generously shared the alligator with everyone else prior to dinner that night.

From Fisherman’s Wharf we headed to Ghiardelli Square. Sydney was basically in heaven from all of the free samples and delicious treats, and when asked if she likes chocolate, she immediately responded, “Is that even a question?!” Bellies filled with chocolate deliciousness, we continued with the quintessential San Franciscan experiences by riding the cable car through the city to Chinatown. Noah K, Lilly, Jon, Jordan S, and Hailey A especially enjoyed the trolley ride from their standing room only places on the side of the car! We were fortunate enough to be in the city for a clear view of the Golden Gate Bridge as we crossed into Sausalito! Alli was especially impressed since she hadn’t seen the whole of it the last time she had visited due to the fog. We had some free time for lunch in Sausalito with clear views of the San Francisco skyline from across the bay—Rachel and several other ladies on the trip took the opportunity to share in some High School Musical serenades before heading to the dance club that evening!

We are in Los Angeles now, and are so excited for all that is yet to come on this trip!
