A final Ovi from Croatia!
Friends and family, the day we once thought was too far away to be real, has come. We’re packing up and trying to cram souvenirs, clothes and a lot of memories into our backpacks…all the while, of course, still taking in every last minute of this trip.
Jogging through the final leg of this trip is bitter-sweet for us all. We’re excited to keep discovering (we’re in the beautiful Croatian city of Dubrovnik) but we know the hours are not long and soon it’ll be time to wave our final goodbyes. As staff, we’re sure that many of those waves are really just “see you soon” because we’ve watched friendships created and old friendships grow stronger – no doubt many of our trip members will be staying in touch long after we all head home.
We left you off in our last blog as we were heading to rafting! There were many water splashing fights and a cave adventure to get across a portion of the river! We realized early in this trip that we have a very adventurous group of teenagers. We spent the afternoon on the beach and in town before heading to dinner.
Our Thursday morning started with a two hour scenic ferry ride to Vis Island, off the coast of Split, followed by a boat ride to an alcove beach and swimming in the Adriatic Sea off our boat. We were even treated to a live music performance by the captain of our boat and his wife.
We packed our bags the next morning and watched Split disappear in the rear view with Dubrovnik in the horizon. After a relaxing afternoon at our hotel pool, we put on our finest outfits to hit the Old City for dinner and a night out at a club! We had to say our goodbyes to Noah, one of our members, that night because he flew to Lyon Saturday morning to play in a music festival! (We really do have the coolest teens ever!)
We’ve done a walking tour of the Old City in Dubrovnik and learned all about the history of the area…and nothing says Croatia like a little sunset kayaking, so in teams of two we all hopped on board our kayaks and sailed into the sunset. We even stopped by a beach for a rest stop which turned into a science class as we watched crabs and shrimps in their natural habitats.
We’re writing this final blog to you from the beach today. It’s hot, the water is just right and the view couldn’t be described as anything less than breathtaking. We’re heading to dinner tonight followed by an opportunity to hear some live local music.
We’re heading to Zagreb tomorrow for our final day before the journey home Tuesday morning.
It has been such a pleasure getting to know each and every trip member in our family. All the staff agree, this has been the best bunch we’ve had and the conversations and laughs shared will be things we treasure for a long while. We’ve all grown over the past three weeks and learned some big life lessons. Mostly, it’s been a pleasure for us to watch the bonding and personality growth in everyone. We hope we’re sending back more cultured, mature and open-minded teenagers who are ready for any adventure life throws their way.
Thanks for trusting us!
