We were all extremely excited to arrive in the beach town of Tamarindo because we got to go surfing! Although not everyone had surfed before, everyone worked their hardest to improve their skills as we fumbled along the Costa Rican coastline. Annabel distinguished herself on the board by learning a new trick, and Zoe looked like a natural with her gymnast balance and precision.
For the next two days in Tamarindo (and nearby Flamingo), we worked on a community service project at a day care in an isolated village. The first day we sanded the walls in order to repaint the space, which was a bit drab and dilapidated. Everyone split up jobs and by the end of the first day the rooms were glowing with fresh, bright colors. Sean and Max painted the ceiling, while Juliana and Chloe detailed the room dividers with a fine purple brush.
The next day, it was Lily’s birthday!! We headed back to the project and touched up the paint job. Noah, Alex, Emily, Jojo and Jessica, were in charge of the whole back room and devoted their day to its renovation. We are all excited for the children to have a newly painted space to promote a fun environment conducive to learning!
After we finished the project, we headed to the beach to cool off and swim. Half the group broke off to check out some of the local shops, while the others stayed to catch some waves. Overall, our visit to Tamarindo was fun!
Tonight we arrived at Arenal valley. After dropping our things off at the hotel, we headed straight to the Hot Springs, an enormous park filled with steamy bathes and warm pools. Dan loved the water slide that flung him down into the pools at invigoratingly high speeds. Will was happy to chill under the waterfalls because for once they were nice and warm! Jenna and Kylie loved being able to snap underwater photos using a waterproof camera. .
We are all really excited for canyoning tomorrow!
Speak to you soon!
