Life Changing Experiences

Coo-Coo for Cali – California & the Canyons

Thursday morning we knew it would be another action packed day with Westcoast Connection. The sun was shining and so were the Trip Members. We spent the day at Universal Studios, and what a blast it we had! We took a tour on the tram through the Universal Studios back lot. We were even lucky enough to catch a live filming of Home and the Family. The tram then took us through the King Kong4D experience. The screams were definitely heard from Olivia, Emma, Alli M. and Peyton! It was quite the thrilling experience on the tram. Michael and Evan were not too shy when they showed some excitement to see the set of Desperate House Wives. Trip Members were then able to explore the park grounds and go on many rides. Some even made their way to Springfield and went on The Simpsons Ride! The more daring Trip Members went through the House of Horrors. After all the rides, we had a nice sit down dinner at the Hard Rock Café. When dinner was over, the fun continued as upbeat music played at the City Walk at Universal Studios. It was one huge dance party as music played and some of the Trip Members like Jessie, Sam F. and Halli made it on the jumbotron! Other Trip Members like Jordan D. and Sarah went into the Los Angeles Sock Market and purchased a cool pair of superman socks. Some of the other girls liked their socks so much they just had to buy a pair for themselves! During the day we also stopped at the UCLA Bookstore where Emma, Jordan P. and Alli M. purchased a notebook and had a great idea to pass around the notebook between themselves to share stories and keep in touch after the trip. So glad to see our Trip Members wanting to stay in touch after the trip finishes.

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Friday we packed up and traveled on over to San Diego and spent the afternoon at the zoo. The double-decker bus allowed us to see so many animals throughout the grounds of the zoo. After the tour, Trip Members then walked around the zoo and visited some of their favorite animals. We saw a baby giraffe, caught a glimpse of a koala and saw many others. Adrienne, Whitney, Jaynie, Harris and Jack were only some of the Trip Members that went on the Skyfari, which allowed Trip Members to see above the whole zoo. When we got back to the hotel, we were able to use the hotel facilities. The beautiful outdoor pool, the hot tub and even the gym. Soon it was dinnertime and before we knew it we were playing a couple games of laser tag, and we played as teams. Shout out to Sam S., Jake and Jillian for having the top scores at laser tag! Today also meant for clean clothes, as Trip Members were able to do some laundry. Cort struck up a nice conversation with a lady that had a story to tell and she thought Cort was such a great kid she gave him a cool t-shirt that she designed herself. Was nice to see the act of pay it forward!

Saturday meant surfs up! Eli Howard’s Surf School in San Diego taught us a whole bunch about surfing. Halli, Austin, Alison S., Lucas, Molly, Hanna, Jessica A and Jaynie were just a few individuals that killed it out on the water! We were so proud to see them doing an amazing job surfing the waves! At Seaport Village some caught a view of a man eating fire, don’t try that at home! Pretty cool to see though! So many memories with Estelle, Allegra, Alison S., Valentine, Alli M., Adrienne, Whitney, Blue, Hubery, & Allison W. – paper plate awards were given out to our friends! Some of the many awards that were given out were: ‘most likely to be a famous inventor award’ which was given to Allegra, Alison S. received ‘most likely to go to Harvard award’, Hubery was awarded with ‘best inquirer and most likely to rule the world’, and Blue received the ‘most improved English award’. It was a great time that evening!
