Northwestern Odyssey checks in from Mount Hood.
Hello from Mt. Hood!
The staff of Northwestern Odyssey are happy to report that everything is off to an amazing start! After our brief orientation and ice breaking mini games, we met Frank the bus driver who took us on our maiden voyage to the Mt. Hood campsite. Contrary to what one might expect, the girl’s tenting section, led by Camille, Meghan and Natalie, won the competition and managed to erect two separate tents long before the boys put up their first! Not to worry boys, there will most certainly be a round two.
The weather here is gorgeous; we woke up to clear blue skies and a perfect mid day high of around 85 degrees. What an experience to hit the ski slopes without a coat on! The usual breaks in the chalet to warm up cold hands and feet were replaced by pauses in the shade to re-hydrate and get some sunscreen on. Meanwhile across from the peak, those who chose to bike were led through a collection of challenging and scenic trails by Josh, the mountain guide. Although the first hill to climb seemed a bit daunting, by the end of the activity all the riders said that they wished they could do it again.
Tomorrow will be our first chance to put some real mileage under our belt as we drive to Seattle for our three night visit. What better way to kick off our stay than to see the Seattle Mariners take on the San Diego Padres?
That’s all for now folks… we look forward to spending the next few weeks with your teenagers and working our hardest to ensure that they have simply the best trip possible!
