Greetings once again from San José!
After an amazing time travelling through Arenal and Monteverde, we have returned back to the Central Valley for a meaningful five days of service with the community of La Carpio. Although we are only three days into this service project, we have learned about La Carpio, its inhabitants, the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation, and the cyclic pattern of poverty. We have spent time helping to fortify the walls and foundation of a house, paint community walls, and spend quality time with kids through a Sports Camp. Our debriefs have been thoughtful, and we’re looking forward to finishing our time of community service well.
Before we returned to Central Valley, we enjoyed many adventures together! Highlights in Arenal included the Baldi Hot Springs and canyoning. Just ask your children about these activities when they return home–absolutely fantastic! Many members of our group had to overcome their fear of heights to repel down the beautiful waterfalls. It was exhilarating, and a memory that will last a lifetime!
Monteverde was a special visit for us, as our Costa Rican guide Yenaro, was able to share all the secrets about his hometown! We spent time learning about sustainability at the coffee co-op, Life Monteverde, and soared through the skies while zip lining. We played soccer with local kids, and even tore up the dance floor at the disco. It was such a fun town to experience with a local leading the way!
We can’t believe that we have just over a week left in beautiful Costa Rica. We are excited to continue to enjoy every moment here, as we finish our time in the Central Valley and head to Dominical and Manuel Antonio!
