Salute! With expectations high, we set out for Sorrento ready for some time in the southern sun. En route, we stopped and explored the excavated ruins of the Roman city of Pompeii. Not far from the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, we were transported back millennia as we walked through the streets, marketplaces, and houses of this ancient town.
Even before arriving at our hotel in Sorrento, we were treated to spectacular views of the cliff-lined Amalfi Coast as the bus wound its way. Not wanting to waste any time in this paradise, we quickly set out for some explorations and made our way to dinner at a Westcoast favorite, Inn Bufalito. After an amazing meal, we took a short walk through the narrow streets and along the edge of the city looking over the Mediterranean.
To make the most of all the beautiful sunshine in Sorrento, we set out early for our ferry to the island of Capri, taking a brief walking tour before setting out to explore in our groups. Those who went seeking were rewarded for their explorations by finding what many Westcoast trips call the best cannoli anywhere in the world. After explorations and lunch, we boarded our chartered boat for a seaside tour of the island, taking in the beautiful grottos and expensive luxury yachts to be found. Our highlight of the day was the swim break we took on the east side of the island, setting down anchor before diving into the perfect waters. The day flew past and, all too quickly, it was time to catch our ferry back to our hotel in Sorrento.
Our day trip to Positano started much the same as our trip to Capri, catching an early ferry to make the most of the beautiful weather. Setting our base on the beaches, we explored this seaside resort town in between swimming and catching some sun. We definitely got our fill of vitamin sea!
Leaving Sorrento, we were off to Florence for our penultimate stop on this amazing European experience. From authentic Tuscan cooking classes, to climbing the bell tower of Il Duomo di Firenze, to gelato in Piazza della Repubblica, to seeing Michelangelo’s David, to free time exploring the streets around the city, our time in Florence has been packed with all the sights, sounds, and tastes that make Tuscany famous. Those who had been to the city before made sure to share some of their favorite spots from their previous journeys, and many made dinner reservations to make sure we got a seat at some spectacular restaurants.
From here we are heading back to France, taking a brief stop in Pisa before we reach our final hotel in Nice. As we draw closer to the end of the once in a lifetime experience, each and every one of us is looking back at all the adventures we have shared along the way. All too soon we will find ourselves on the plane back home. But as sad as the end of the adventure may be, we have all been enriched by the experiences and friendships we have made.
Until Next Time,
The Westcoast Blogger
