Bike Tour on the Waterfront – Northwestern Odyssey

The Northwestern Odyssey checks in from the Canadian Rockies!

It’s been a week since we left Seattle and we have been having non-stop fun!  We were all in high spirits when we arrived at the Marriott Residence Inn in Whistler BC.  We went into the village for dinner our first night and we were eager to hit the slopes the next morning.

It took three chair lifts and a bus ride to get to the top of the mountain!  Tess and Shelby went on the t-bar for the first time and they were really excited about it.

Cody, Alec, Matt and a few of the guys went mountain biking while the girls took a more scenic route.  Everyone came back having really enjoyed their activities.

In Whistler we also took the “Peak to Peak” gondola, explored the village and chilled in the hot tub at the hotel. One night we had a competition for the best Italian meal.  In one group, Daniel O. cooked a fantastic lasagna, Allan juggled cherries for the judges, Emma created an impressive menu, Jacob N. and Michael told jokes, Lindsay made pink lemonade and Hayley L. and Nikki mixed up a great Caesar salad.  The group was called “La Fresca” and the judges were really impressed.

We visited Granville Island on our first day in Vancouver.  We all ended up hanging out on a dock and listening to classical music.  Jeff and Tyler B. learned how to ballroom dance.  It was really entertaining!

That night, we dumped our bags at the UBC dorms and headed to the UBC aquatics center.  Sam was the first to dive off the high diving board.  Courtney, Katie W., Hayley B. and Carly jumped right after.  Tyler, Jake and David had fun swinging on a rope into the water.

The next day was definitely our most eventful.  We did community service at River Works by the Frasier Lake.  Brad and Perri went back and forth carrying plants to designated areas.  Becca W., Becca P. and Rachel took initiative digging up roots. We were thrilled to lend a helping hand.

In the afternoon, we went to Spokes to pick up bikes for our tandem bike tour on the waterfront and through Stanley Park. Katie and Stephanie were really into it and were phenomenal! We were amazed that two people can ride a bike together.

For dinner, we went to Fogg and Suds. Once again, Grant demonstrated his generosity when he handed a piece of cheesecake to Rob, our tour director.

Before we left Vancouver, we had to do laundry. To pass the time, some of the girls played cards while others put on a fashion show in the aisles.

The ride to Penticton was absolutely beautiful.  We stopped mid-way for lunch and everybody was happy to lounge in the sun.  We even got to see a family of groundhogs.

We pitched our tents and drove down to the karaoke lounge.  We all danced and sang songs.  Hayley, Zach, and Blair got everyone on the dance floor.

Today we went waterskiing, wakeboarding, and banana boating.  A lot of the campers were able to get up on the boards.  Afterwards, we spent the afternoon tubing down a lazy river.  For lunch we had grilled cheese right on the beach.  Becky G. and Eric helped out right away cutting fresh fruits and veggies.

We’re having a great time and will check in again soon!
