Wow – it’s day 24?! It feels like just yesterday that we were soaking up the sun in San Fran. We can’t believe that this trip is coming to an end. We have travelled from Lake Tahoe all the way to Jackson Hole. In Lake Tahoe, Sabrina and Greg were pros on the wakeboard. Although the water seemed to be extremely choppy because of the busy July 4th weekend, Rylee still managed to get up on the Slalom ski.
In Los Angeles we went to the food bank. The trip members felt great knowing that their help directly affected the community. Michelle took a lead on sorting the different goods donated while Brian and Ben opened up all of the donations. However, we still had the energy for the rides at Disneyland and Universal Studios. Frozen seemed to be the hit of the park as Carrie held on tight to her very large Frozen balloon. Carly and Jojo loved watching the fireworks over the Disney castle as the rest of the trip members smiled and sang along to the songs with them. Brad and Mallory shared a few laughs at the Improv and some trip members were so excited to meet a character from the movie The Internship. We left LA with no regrets, other than maybe a few too many sweatshirts bought at the UCLA bookstore.
In San Diego we took an amazing trip to the zoo where we had a bus tour through the middle of the park. Talia’s favorite animals were the monkeys. The next day was spent surfing the San Diego coast where it was very clear that it wasn’t Sera, Julia E. or Noa’s first time. Every single person that went surfing got up at least once.
On our way to Lake Tahoe we stopped in Reno to go white water rafting. The river was crystal blue and just adventurous especially Kevin and Zoe who enjoyed the water from in and out of the raft. Most of the trip members then had the luxury of doing laundry for the very first time. Matthew was so proud of himself for doing his laundry all on his own. In Las Vegas, the Stratosphere seemed to be a highlight. Both Steve and Jake had looks of terror, but were thrilled after completing this exhilarating ride.
In Sedona we took a Pink Jeep tour through the canyons which everyone enjoyed. Zach and Julia had the best seat as they held on tight and enjoyed their ride. Trip members appreciated the beautiful landscape around them when hiking through Bryce and Grand Canyons. Although the hikes were challenging, trip members Charlotte and Jacob kept our spirits high. Maddy and Jennaveve snapped some gorgeous pictures on the hike. We also had our first talent show in Kanab, Utah, which was a great success. Greg, dressed in a monkey suit, was the MC and introduced all the trip members and their talents. Everybody participated and dressed up based on their act. According to our judge panel made up of Kevin, Bradley, and Grant, the winner of the talent show was Jamie with his amazing Korean “Catallena” dance. Ever since the show, the trip members have been trying to learn the unique dance.
After our flight from Scottsdale to Boulder, we made our way to the University of Colorado. That night we dined at a really unique and interesting restaurant called The Sink, where Obama had previously been. The trip members had smiles on their faces as they jumped so high at the trampoline park, Jumpstreet. Danielle used the trampoline to add some height in her tumbling run. The foam pit was filled with laughter from both Rachel K and Rachel S. Not only were there trampolines, but many people rode the mechanic bull, which was a fun first experience for most of the trip members, although you could see that Settos was struggling to hold on.
Can’t wait to update you on our exciting last few days!
