667…668…669! We Did It! – Backpack France, Switzerland & Italy

Backpack France, Switzerland, Italy

Bonjour from France! We are currently on route from Paris to Tignes. So far our trip is off to a great start.

On July 2nd we all arrived in Paris. As soon as all of our trip members arrived we took a train to our hotel. Our first train ride was very exciting- we boarded and were serenaded by performers singing 80’s classic rock songs. That evening we went to the Eiffel Tower. We climbed all 669 steps to the top and arrived just in time to see the lights come on. It was a magical first night.

On our second day we went on a bike tour of Paris and even got to see Jim Morrison’s house, as well as the home of the author of Les Miserable. In the afternoon Jessica taught us a new game to play as a group called “Pepsi Coke. ” While exploring Pompidou, Jordan, Zach, Matt S., Jason, and Benjy got involved in a pick up soccer game with some local children. Unfortunately for the boys, the home team won this one. We also had a “human bingo” competition and the prize for the winner was the opportunity to select a song for the staff to sing that evening at Karaoke. Zach was our winner and he surprised us in the evening by selecting a rap song for us to perform at Café River Droite. We have some very talented trip members in our group. All of the boys performed their rendition of “Gangnam style” and Jessica and Katie performed “Starships” by Nikki Minaj.

On our third day in Paris we visited the Louvre. We had two tours of the museum one led by our very knowledgeable guide Violette and another very colorful tour led by Benjy. In the evening Grant took care of navigating our way to Notre Dame and we ate dinner in the Latin Quarter while watching the France vs. Germany world cup game. At dinner Zach and Jessica tasted frog legs. Afterwards Danny led us home on the subway and we had a “battle of the sexes” game. In the end the girls won when Cat had the closest answer in the tiebreaker question.

Yesterday we had a photo scavenger hunt in Montmartre. In the end the winners were the boys who had the most creative submissions. We ate dinner in Montmartre and in the evening went on a boat cruise of the Seine River. Grant, Matt S, and Matt made friends with other tourists and Lauren, Brooke and Morgan took some great shots of the Eiffel tower.

Our trip is off to an amazing start! We hope your summer is turning out to be as great as ours! Au Revior!
