For teens who love all aspects of fashion and dream of living in New York City… the Fashion Experience will bring dreams to life as participants get exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the world of fashion. LIM College and Westcoast Connection Teen Summer Programs have collaborated in New York City to provide an exceptional fashion career experience for you – the next generation of industry professionals.
From learning how to forecast fashion trends and working with a celebrity stylist, to directing an editorial photoshoot, this Fashion Experience for teens will bring your runway dreams to life. Get inspired as you learn the ins and outs of the business of fashion from industry professionals who will be leading your sessions. Capitalize on the opportunity to network with notable executives, designers and artists as you get face-to-face time with them during site visits.

Facilitated by instructors with decades of experience, this 2-week immersive program allows high school students to experience the business of fashion. Learn the most current fashion business practices through interactive sessions covering merchandising, retailing, marketing, social & fashion media, and trend forecasting! Create life-long connections through group projects and small-group discussions with industry experts.

Week 1: Fashion Business 101 Introduction to the Fashion Business - students will be introduced to the broad scope of the business of fashion, which includes the areas of fashion merchandising and marketing, fashion media and entrepreneurship.
The Business of Fashion Merchandising and Trend Forecasting - Understanding trends is the foundation of a successful fashion brand. Utilizing industry databases and resources, students will learn how to analyze and interpret upcoming fashion trends. Students will understand what trend forecasters and fashion merchandisers do daily and create a mood board and color palette.
College Admission 101 and Career Boot Camp - Students will spend the day meeting with a LIM Admissions counselor to explore fashion majors and more and discover tips and tricks that stand out in the college application and admissions process. Also, a Career and Internship Services Faculty Member will introduce students to a variety of careers within the fashion industry and beyond on National Intern Day, 7-28-2022!
Fashion Styling Part 1 - Working with a celebrity stylist, students will explore the role of a stylist as well as how to make an impactful fashion campaign. Students will work together to style an actual photoshoot with makeup artists, hair stylists and a photographer.
Week 2: Implementing New Fashion Business Skills Fashion Styling Part 2 - Continue working with a celebrity stylist, students will explore the role of a stylist as well as how to make an impactful fashion campaign. Students will work together to style an actual photoshoot with makeup artists, hair stylists and a photographer.
Inside Fashion Media & Making a Digital Magazine - Explore the roles of fashion, beauty, styling, and content creators. Students will brainstorm a concept and create a digital fashion magazine and host a launch party.
Fashion Merchandising - Students will visit local fashion businesses such as Puma, Nike and Adidas to explore their facilities and to experience the day-to-day life of a fashion merchandiser.
Intern for a Day: Work on a Real Fashion Industry Project! - Work on an exclusive real-world industry project hosted by industry expert and LIM alum, Sabrina Moscola, Sr. Technical Developer, Jewelry & Accessories at Target.

Chelsea Originally home to warehouses and non-operational railroads, Chelsea has transformed into a contemporary art district and rising hotspot of New York City, with highlights such as the Chelsea market (an indoor marketplace and mecca for gourmet food lovers), and Chelsea Piers (a sports and entertainment complex on the waterfront, featuring a roller rink, ice rink, and bowling alley).

Flight to New York As a participant on our Fashion Experience program, you may fly to New York City and be greeted upon arrival and enjoy complimentary transfer (for flights in designated times) from the airport to our hotel. For those requiring, we are happy to assist you with arranging flights to and from the program. If you prefer, you may be dropped off directly at our hotel and meet your staff there.
Return Flight Home from New York For your return from New York for flights in designated times, we provide airport transfer and our leaders help you to check in and remain in the airport until flights have departed.
Food & Meals A big part of your summer program’s success depends on how well you eat. We are proud of the fact that year after year we are complimented for our quality, quantity and choice of food! Enjoy a delicious breakfast with a healthy variety of hot and cold choices. For lunch, you enjoy the choice of eating in smaller groups and choosing from local cafés and small restaurants. For dinner, either the whole group goes to the same restaurant or we divide into smaller groups to sample quainter places with a variety of cuisines. Food options are varied and plentiful.
We have satisfied the choosiest of eaters and gladly accommodate most special dietary requests including vegetarian, anaphylactic food allergies, lactose intolerance, celiac disease, and kosher style. We welcome discussing your individual requirements with you and have extensive experience in this area.
Laundry You will only need one week’s worth of clothing as outlined in the packing list that will be sent to you prior to departure. You will have the opportunity to do laundry at your convenience by dropping it off at a local wash and fold service and then pick it up clean, folded and ready to go.
What’s Included Included in your program tuition is all lodging, breakfast and dinner daily, recreation & entertainment listed, day excursions, Wi-Fi, airport transfers in designated times, gratuities & taxes.
Not included is transportation to and from the program, lunches, snacks, personal spending money for souvenirs, and laundry. We also make available optional travel insurance that is not included, but highly recommended.

Who are the staff and what are their qualifications?
Our staff are educators, guidance counselors, coaches, college and university students, former camp counselors, residence life coordinators, community volunteers, world travelers, and other leaders with diverse backgrounds. Many are former participants themselves who couldn’t get enough of the Westcoast experience! Learn more about our summer leaders.
What if I need to contact my teen during the program?
Participants may bring their cell phones so parents may call and message their kids directly. You may also contact our Communication Centers which serve as the official link between programs on the road and parents. We are staffed every day during the summer and have somebody on call for after hours emergencies ready to assist you 24/7.
Will attending one of your programs help me get into college?
Attending a summer program is an incredible opportunity to learn and grow into a more well-rounded, mature individual. No matter what type of program you choose, the personal development and experience gained over the course of the summer are valuable resources that could help you with your college essays and applications. If your goal for the summer is to get a head start on college prep, a Career Experience or Pre-College Enrichment program could be just what you need. So while attending any particular summer program will not necessarily get you into your choice school, what you get from it can make a difference!
