Westcoast Connection (“WCC”) is committed to maintaining the privacy of your information. This notice explains how we collect, share, and protect information that you provide us.
Our mission is to operate and offer you useful information about travel programs for middle school and high school students, custom travel and family travel. In doing so, we post content that we feel is suitable to our users, as well as provide other online capabilities, including online enrollment, brochure requests, call requests, and staff applications. In order for us to make those services available, we may ask you to submit personally identifiable information (PII).
What information we collect
You may provide us with certain PII when you do actions on our Site such as:
- View or download a brochure or other WCC material;
- Share or email an itinerary or other WCC material;
- Schedule a call;
- Initiate an online chat with a WCC representative or ask a question;
- Enroll a trip member (or trip members) via our online forms and website tools;
- Request customer support online or send us any other communication;
- Sign up for newsletters, email alerts;
- Share or upload photos or videos;
- Participate or exchange comments on our Sites or blog;
- Enter sweepstakes or contests;
- Sign up for, or redeem special offers;
- Leave customer reviews or feedback;
- Apply for a job;
- Respond to surveys;
More specifically, the PII collected through the use of our website may include: Contact information, such as your name, e-mail address, mailing address, and phone number; participant information, including name, date of birth, school, previous program, passport, gender, health, medical & personal information; and billing information, such as a credit card number, security code and a billing address. You may also provide us with information about other people, such as their email addresses, if you email a document to a friend or refer a friend to the Site(s) or participate in our promotions.
How we use your information
We use non-personally identifiable information to monitor the use and performance of the Site so that we can learn more about how people use the Site. This helps us improve our products and services and significantly enhance your experience on our Site.
Some examples of how our website data may be used include:
- Provide enhanced features and functionality of the Site;
- Fulfill your requests for our products and services;
- Communicate with you about the status of your trip(s) and other inquiries about our products and services;
- Send you information about our products and services;
- For our internal business purposes, such as data analysis, audits and so forth;
- Help us create content that is more relevant to you; and
- Provide notices about the results of sweepstakes, contest and other promotions.
We use your email address to communicate to you about your account, enrollment forms, payment, certain trip notifications or marketing promotions. You may unsubscribe or change the frequency of our marketing emails by clicking on the ‘unsubscribe’ link at footer of one of our marketing emails. If you email a trip itinerary or other WCC information to a friend or refer a friend to the Site, we will use your friend’s email to send them the e-mail you requested. Your friend’s e-mail addresses will only be used for this purpose unless permission is otherwise granted. Your friend may contact us in any manner described in the “Contact Us” section below if they would like any further information.
How we collect information
As mentioned, WCC only collects PII that is necessary to conduct business with our clients. The actual capturing of data falls under the following types of data collection methods:
You can at any time choose to delete the cookies and reset your browser, to refuse all cookies or to display a message when a cookie is being sent. Please note, if you reset your browser, some of the Site features and functionality may not be available to you and you may not be able to take advantage of all the features on the Site.
Some of our communications may use a “click-through URL” linked to content on the Site. When Users click one of these URLs, they pass through our web server before arriving at the destination web page. We may, now or in the future, track this click-through data to help us determine interest in particular topics and measure the effectiveness of our communications.
Web Beacons, Log Files & Pixel Tags
WCC collects certain non-personally identifiable information through the use of web beacons and log files. Such information may include your IP address, browser type, Site page usage, and whether or not the emails we send are opened or not.
We may work with other companies who place cookies or web beacons on our Sites. We do not have access or control over these cookies. These companies help operate our websites and provide you with additional products and services. They are subject to confidentiality agreements with WCC and other legal restrictions. WCC does not permit any of these companies to collect PII using cookies or web beacons on our websites. Certain functionalities related to the provision of additional products and services require marketers to share website usage information about visitors to the Site, who have received a targeted promotional campaign, with a reputable third-party advertising company for the purpose of targeting future campaigns and upgrading visitor information used in reporting statistics. To this end, WCCs third-party advertising company makes a note of some of the pages you visit on the Site through the industry standard practice of using pixel tags.
How we secure and protect your information
You may also choose not to provide us with certain information, but that may result in you being unable to use certain features on our Sites because such information may be required in order for you to: request or download a document, schedule a call, initiate a chat, leave a review or feedback, enter a contest or promotion, enroll a trip member, or initiate any other type of transaction on our Sites.
Third parties may unlawfully attempt to hack or access transmissions or private communications.
We follow widely-accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Third party links and websites
The information you provide is protected against unauthorized access and is not sold to or shared with third parties unless necessary as in the following:
- required to by law enforcement agencies;
- to service providers engaged by us to execute certain activities including payment processing, mail or e-mail distribution, and other technical and processing functions, such as maintaining data integrity, programming operations, user services, or technology services; and
- Account or other information as part of a merger, sale, or other business transfer.
Notice for parents or legal guardians
If you are a parent or legal guardian of a child under the age of 13, you have the right to review, have deleted, or otherwise prevent third party disclosure of your child’s information. If your child under the age of 13 may have provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us in any manner described in the “Contact Us” section below for help.
