Just a quick note to let you know what we’ve been up to. This week was a special one for a trip member of ours and so we would like to start right off the bat by wishing Hannah a happy birthday! It was a blast celebrating it on our ride to Montana on our decorated party bus. After the last Tim Horton’s coffee shop visit on the way down, we have now completed all the Canadian stops on our 25 day voyage.
Our stay in Calgary flew by so fast that some of us are still wearing our cowboy hats. It started off with the Calgary Stampede, an extravagant western fair and rodeo that was a cultural experience for all. Megan and Jordan fit right in with their cow boy and cow girl out fits!
The city’s Western flair is not its only claim to fame. Calgary has also been on the radar for hosting the winter Olympics. Our second day’s itinerary included a visit and bobsled ride at Canada Olympic park. Colin, Liam, Gabby and Avril managed to cut through the course with the best time and highest top speed of around 50 miles per hour. We would like to thank our two time Olympic driver from Brazil who helped pilot the sled and guide them and the rest of us safely down the track! After a hearty feast at the University of Calgary’s residence hall, we witnessed the red team (Brittany, Jack, Eric, Federico, Hannah, Morgan and Avril) destroy the competition in a much anticipated game of laser tag. Before we knew it the night was over and with it so was the stay in our third city.
The next day we travelled to our last campsite in Glacier National Park, Montana to find that between the pool, hot tub and mountains in every direction, the last camp site of the trip was definitely the best. What a perfect location to start the final and most epic of our team competitions – extending the Olympic theme, we had our own competition! Our two groups have been determined and although the White team dominated the traditional capture the flag, watermelon eating and bus dance off competitions, there will still be opportunities for the opposition to catch up!
In between the friendly rivalry, we have enjoyed a stunning boat ride and then hike to the magnificent St. Mary’s waterfall near the glacier for which the park was named. The walk there was challenging but the views were certainly worth it.
We are now back on the road going through another spectacular National Park while listening to tunes by DJ’s Matt, Russel, Charlie, Alex and Noah. It has only been an hour and we have already spotted an eagle, elk, and deer. Next stop: Jackson, Wyoming for some white water rafting.
It is now the home stretch of the trip and we look forward to ending the last couple days on a high note!
We’ll write again before the trip is through and look forward to seeing you all soon!
