Smile If You Love Me – Boston/Washington Community Service

An update from Boston/Washington Community Service:

Dear Parents,

Two days into our trip and we’re already feeling like a team, ready to experience whatever Washington has to offer. Lindsay, Lauren and I are loving the energy that we’ve seen so far. Throughout our weekend in Ocean City, the good humor and friendliness of our trip members were on display.

The group met for the first time in Newark, where Cristina helped everyone get to know each other by leading a few games of ninja in the lobby of the hotel. We then boarded the vans and headed for our next stop: Ocean City!

Upon arriving at the hotel, Lea led the group through a game of Shoe Psychic. Jess had us all laughing when she explained how her checkered shoes were a reflection of her personality! The fun continued in Ocean City when we took a ride on the Silver Bullet speedboat. The ride was wet and wild! We spotted upwards of ten dolphins!

Our time on the beach was filled with more memorable moments. In a game of Smile If You Love Me, Julian’s proposals had us all in stitches. Everyone, that is, except for Rheanna, the master of the game, who was able to keep her cool in the face of even the funniest acts. Bailey, on the other hand, was an easy target: she laughed the whole time! Another beach activity was whiffle ball. Andrew bought a bat and ball, and Jordan, Eli, Charlie, and Spencer joined him in a game of skill and speed.

We took the group to pirate mini putt. We played in pirate ships, under waterfalls, and across rivers. Jake wowed the group with his one handed putting stroke. Anna Y. also played a great game!

The good times continued in Washington. Our first stops were the Smithsonian Museums of Air and Space and the American Indian. We then headed back to the dorms to prepare for our community service project at the Boys and Girls Club tomorrow. With the help of Carlye’s beautiful writing, we brainstormed mottos to keep in mind during our service tomorrow. Anna R., Chloe, and Talia then led their groups in coming up with games to play with the kids at the club.

We can’t wait to see the plans and mottos in action. Our trip in Washington is off to a great start!

A Little Heckling for Wearing the Wrong Gear – Major League Madness

From Cleveland to New York, the lastest update from the Major League Madness.

The Westcoast Blogger

Dear Parents of Major League Madness,

Here is the latest update on Major League Madness. Our Last day in Cleveland began with a trip to the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Sam and Kevin loved taking pictures of all the instruments and pictures on display, as well as all the inductee’s signatures. The night concluded at Progressive Field with the Seattle Mariners taking on the Cleveland Indians. Zack and Brian both came home with batting practice balls from some generous Cleveland players and the group got to see Cliff Lee pitch a gem winning the game 3-1. The next day began with a tour of Progressive where Max and Bret took some very cool pictures in the Indians dugout and batting cages.

Next stop was Pittsburgh to see the Pirates take on Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants. During pre-game Ari and Gio came away with some great autographed baseballs. Philip and David took full advantage of dollar hot dog night and Grant and Daniel loved the centerfield seats as the Pirates took the game in 14 innings 2-1.

After a quick stop in Pittsburgh the team was off to the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. The trip to D.C. started with a monument tour. Gabe and Adam D. got some great photos atop the Washington Monument, and Austin and Jon B. got some great pics with Abe himself at the Lincoln Memorial. The tour then rolled on to Nationals Stadium to watch the Nationals play the Chicago Cubs. Jordan and Ethan M. were able to sneak into some great seats while Jake M. made a nice play to catch a foul ball in a game the Cubs won 11-3. Colin and Garrett both correctly identified the murderer at the Shear Madness show, while Jon F. and Scott loved all the laughs the longest running show brought. After a fun day in Washington it was off to Philly.

Our first stop in Philadelphia was Reading Terminal where Jesse and Josh M. devoured some huge cheesesteaks and Matt K. took some great photos of the liberty bell. That night the crew saw the Cubs again as they took on the Phillies. Dave G. and Jacob G. took a little heckling for wearing their Mets gear and Elliot had a great view from the left field seats to see the Phils take the game 10-1. The next day was a trip to Ocean City, New Jersey for a beach day. Jeremy D. and Adam W. had fun in the ocean while Robert and Jeremy C. both scored touchdowns in beach football. After two great days in Philly the team headed off to New York to see the Yankees in action.

Our day began with a 1:00 game to see the Bronx Bombers take on the Baltimore Orioles. Matt B. and Ethan R. loved the new Yankee Stadium atmosphere, and Harris was sitting front row to see the great Mariano Rivera warm up. That night the group ate at ESPN zone in Times Square, where Dan and Matthew S. loved the huge arcade the restaurant offered. Our day yesterday began with a tour of Yankee Stadium where Josh E. and Jake R. got some great pictures of the famous monument park. Currently we are on our way to Boston; the crew (including the Yankees fans) are going to have a blast in Bean Town.

More to come soon!
